Don't know how I dodged this one (speeding ticket).

I’m going to go with clean living, upstanding citizenship and being a local who lives down the street from the station.

Basically got popped this morning for 55 in a 35 on the way to work. While I don’t dispute I was going over 35, I still don’t think I got near 55. It was 4:30am when they lit up the lights behind me. Pulled over, answered the “do you know the speed limit”, “where do you live”, “where are you going” questions. Cop took my license, came back and said “slow it down for us, get to work safe.” and that was that.

I didn’t even have to bust out a “how about a warning this time?”.

It would have been only my second speeding ticket. The first I was insanely proud off, still am, but got way back in college.

Same with me. I was driving up highway 97 in Oregon. The speed limit was 55, but I was doing 5-10mph faster. I get pulled over by a state trooper. I tell the trooper (And I was 100% honest) that I didn’t know he was a state trooper. He asked me if I’ve ever been cited in Oregon, and I said no. Without running my license through the system, he gave my papers back to me and told me to slow down.

Aaaaand unclench.

That’s the way it should be. No harm no foul. At most give you a written warning, that goes in the system, so many written warnings then you get a ticket.

The first was in my ‘79 Chevy Nova. Pea green, 4 doors, straight six with a carb from hell. Blew the head gasket earlier and replaced it. That was the first time I’d done anything engine specific to a car. I was over the moon I’d replaced the gasket and the damn thing ran.

The speedo was shot by this point, but it didn’t matter because the old girl was only good to about 55mph. But somehow I got it up to 75 on a long stretch of boring Florida highway. Got tagged in a massive speed trap, they had airplanes clocking people. So when the cop said I’d been doing 75 I was so god damned happy that my car, the car I fixed in the dark one night with nothing more and good intentions and a Chilton’s manual, could even go that fast.

Wow. Cops and troopers around here don’t even give a second look unless you’re obviously drunk or doing 15+ over.

OK, that’s a great story! I was wondering how you could be proud of a speeding ticket, but now I get it. :)

My first (and thus far only) was when I was 17. 80km/h in a 60km/h. Luckily he dropped it to 15 over so I didn’t get any points.

I always felt pretty pissed off at that one. Because:

- I’d just gotten off the highway and was still in “speed mode” (Not saying this wasn’t my fault, just saying the guy picked a really annoying place)

- He was spotting people (me) coming over the crest of the highway overpass and I couldn’t see him

- Of COURSE you speed peaks when you pass the crest of ANY hill (which meant my speed went up by a bit just as he was able to take a reading)

- I go that way fairly regularly and I’ve never seen a cop there before or since

- In Ontario in most cases a cop won't even blink at 20 over.

I’ve only been pulled over 3 or 4 times for speeding (spread across 18 years) and never once even gotten a warning. I must look pretty.

I did get a BS ticket, and my entire car pulled apart, and put in handcuffs for 'weaving within my lane' (don't remember what the actual statute was they put it under); also got arrested for driving into a controlled area...have a scar on my wrist from that one. I'd rather have speeding tickets....

I got busted for 67 in a 45 once, I didn’t even get a warning.
